Cultural Services hosts events for Heritage Open Days 2008

03 September 2008

Herefordshire Council's cultural services are hosting four free events during this year's national Heritage Open Days.

There will be a chance to see the upper floor of Ledbury Heritage Centre on Friday, September 12 and Saturday September 13, with its splendid timber framed roof and the work of the Victoria County History team. The centre is open from 10.30am until 4.30pm.

The Master's House in Ledbury is open on Friday, September 12 from 10am until noon and 1pm until 4pm for people to learn about the re-development and the history of the site and see into the roof space.

A two-hour guided walk around Ross is being organised by heritage staff at the Market House Heritage Centre, Ross-on-Wye, on Saturday, September 13. Arrive at 1.45pm for a 2pm start.

There is also a family open day on the theme of "Signed, sealed and delivered" at the Museum Resource and Learning Centre in Friars Street on Saturday, September 13 from 11am until 3pm. This will offer a chance to see behind the scenes, see collections associated with communications and a chance for people to create their own sealed document to take home.

Twenty one venues are taking part in Herefordshire Heritage Open Days this year, co-ordinated by the council's Heritage Services. A joint county leaflet has been created to showcase everything from a free visit to the Mappa Mundi to a chance to visit a tiny medieval chapel in Ledbury.

Heritage Open Days is a national free event, participating venues are either places not usually open to the public, places that normally charge admission and are open for free on the advertised day or are running special events.

The press launch of the county leaflet at the Museum Resource & Learning Centre on August 27 attracted a good crowd and enthusiasm for the forthcoming events.
