The Local Government Boundary Commission for England (LGBCE) has published it's draft recommendations for new electoral arrangements for Herefordshire Council based on the consultation carried out from 25 November 2025 to 2 February 2026.

We are sharing this information on our website to help residents, parish and town councils and local organisations understand the proposals and take part in the LGBCE consultation.

The LGBCE's draft recommendations included: 53 councillors elected to Herefordshire Council, and new ward boundaries across the authority.

How the proposals were reached

When developing the draft recommendations, the LGBCE considered representations received during their initial consultation and balanced the statutory criteria they must follow.

The LGBCE draft recommendations seek to:

• Make sure that, within an authority, each councillor represents a similar number of electors
• Create boundaries that are appropriate, and reflect community ties and identities
• Deliver reviews informed by local needs, views and circumstances
• Reflect the request for single-member wards

Final report

The consultation closed on 6 July 2026.

The LGBCE invited comments on the draft recommendations before it finalised the new electoral arrangements for the area.

Please note: this was not a council consultation, we are hosting this information for convenience.

All responses were considered by the LGBCE. The LGBCE weighed each response against the criteria above.

The LGBCE will now lay a draft order in both Houses of Parliament. Subject to parliamentary scrutiny, the new electoral arrangements are scheduled to come into effect at the local elections in May 2027.
