A Protection Zone and a Surveillance Zone is set around the place where disease has been confirmed to help prevent its spread and checks need to be made of all poultry and other captive birds within the 3km Protection Zone.
You can check if you are within one of the zone's on the APHA Interactive Disease Map.
If you keep poultry or other captive birds at an address within the zone, please record details of them by using our online form:
Complete the avian flu questionnaire
Further information on the current avian influenza restrictions and controls which apply in your area can be found on the government website.
APHA (Animal and Plant Health Agency) staff may call you to gather further information. This information will help our veterinary staff to assess the risk of avian influenza spread. APHA veterinary staff may need to carry out a visual inspection of your birds to assess their health. They will be in touch if they need to do this.
In the meantime, if your livestock show any signs of disease, you must report your suspicions to APHA immediately by calling 03000 200 301.
All data gathered will be shared with DEFRA and APHA for the purposes of notifiable disease prevention and control.
