Burials including burial of ashes
Lawn sections
In all our cemeteries a coffin burial takes place in our lawn sections.
- All burials are prepared for two interments with the exception of Kington and Wigmore cemeteries and our children's sections where graves are prepared for one interment only. (Ashes can be interred at a later date)
- Lawn section graves are seeded (after approximately 12 months) and they are mown by bereavement services. Once the grave has been seeded, no planting or ornaments are allowed on the grave space
- Families can choose to purchase the Exclusive Right of Burial for a grave for a period of 50 years. While there is no obligation to erect a memorial on the grave or cremated remains plot, any memorial you do choose should be provided and fitted by a monumental mason registered with Herefordshire Council
Cremated remains sections at Hereford, Leominster, Kington and Wigmore cemeteries
Ashes can be buried at Hereford, Leominster, Kington and Wigmore cemeteries either in our cremated remains section or within an existing grave space.
- In the cremated remains section, each plot is prepared for up to two sets of remains
- In Hereford and Leominster cemeteries, ashes are buried within a stone chipping surround and grassed pathways
- Families can choose to purchase the Exclusive Right of Burial for a grave for a period of 50 years. While there is no obligation to erect a memorial on the grave or cremated remains plot, any memorial you do choose should be provided and fitted by a monumental mason registered with Herefordshire Council
- Ashes can also be buried in an existing family grave with authorisation from the grave owner
Leominster Cemetery Garden of Memory
The Garden of Memory is a small area within Leominster Cemetery comprising a centre lawn with surrounding pathway edges where memorial plaques can be placed in memory of a loved one.
- Ashes are normally interred as a loose burial (without a casket) in an unmarked spot
- You can ask to witness the interment
- You can lease a space on the pathway edges of the Garden of Memory to display a bronze or granite memorial plaque
Hereford Crematorium
There are also three memorial gardens at Hereford Crematorium where you can inter or scatter ashes.
The Garden of Remembrance
- The Garden of Remembrance is now only available to families with previous interments in the garden
