Money to study - care leavers
Support in Year 11
If you are in Year 11 then your school will receive Pupil Premium and the best use of this will be discussed and agreed at your PEP meetings. This funding can be used to buy essential equipment and/or study aids.
16-19 bursary fund
All young people aged 16-19 who are in care and study full time are entitled to a bursary, which will be paid to you by your college, sixth form or training centre. It can be used to pay for transport, purchase essential equipment, educational materials and books.
If for any reason you aren’t entitled to a bursary but there are essential books or equipment that you need, then your social worker or personal advisor will be able to request funding for these items for you. The 16+ team manager will decide if we should fund these for you.
If, as part of your course, you need to go on a field trip or a residential course and the cost of these can’t be met from your bursary or a Further Education College Access Fund, then your social worker or personal advisor will be able to request funding for these items for you. The 16+ team manager will decide if we should fund these for you.
