Debt recovery policy - Council policies, strategies and procedures

This policy applies to the collection and recovery of billed charges and sets out how we will collect and recover income due to the council.

It identifies the principles to be applied to debt management across the council and aims to ensure that all monies due are collected and that debt owed to the council is kept to a minimum.

This is because the council has both a legal duty and a responsibility to its citizens to ensure that income due is paid promptly.

This policy relates to all debt collected by the council - Council Tax, business rates, penalty charges, rent, trade waste, adult social care charges.
