Information sharing protocol - Council policies, strategies and procedures

This document is an information sharing protocol (for the purpose of this protocol, the terms data and information are synonymous).

The aim of this document is to facilitate sharing of information between the public, private and voluntary sectors so that members of the public receive the services they need whilst maintaining their confidentiality.

Organisations involved in providing services to the public have a legal responsibility to ensure that their use of personal information is lawful, properly controlled and that an individual’s rights are respected. The balance between the need to share information to provide a quality service and protection of confidentiality is often difficult to achieve.
