Polling station inspectors
Polling Station Inspectors undertake a vital role on polling day in ensuring that the poll runs smoothly. Similar to the role of polling station staff, you will be on duty for the duration of the polling hours and will be required to visit polling places and carry out inspections/duties as directed by the Returning Officer during polling day. You may also be asked to receipt ballot boxes after the close of poll at one of the collection points in your area.
To become a Polling Station Inspector, you must have previous experience as a Presiding Officer.
Polling Station Inspector day fee - £374.88
This fee includes:
- 16.5 hours work at £22.72 per hour (these hours include any setting up of polling stations and working on polling day)
In addition to this fee you will receive:
- £0.45p per mile travel expenses (non-taxable)
- £10 for online training if undertaken
- £30 for face to face training if undertaken (face to face training lasts 2 hours and is paid at a rate of £15 per hour)
If an election is combined with another election, Polling Station Inspectors will receive a 10% uplift to the Polling Station Inspector day fee. All Polling Station Inspectors fees are subject to tax unless stated otherwise.
