All 500 trees for Hereford now allocated
Herefordshire Council is thanking Hereford City residents, businesses, schools and colleges following the tremendous success of the city trees scheme.
500 trees were available on a first come first served basis, thanks to funding from the government’s Accelerated Towns Fund, and all have now been delivered to those who requested them.
The variety of tree species were carefully chosen to be suitable for the majority of gardens in Hereford in City and will help to create a green canopy in Hereford.
Cllr Ellie Chowns, Cabinet member for environment, economy and skills explains: “We are delighted with the success of the city trees scheme and have been overwhelmed by the response. We would like to thank everybody who got in touch to request a tree and to everyone who has sent in photos of their tree being planted.
“The council’s County Plan sets a priority to improve our local natural environment, and encouraging the planting of trees is a big part of this. Trees are beautiful additions to public spaces and properties. They help to improve air quality and tackle climate change. Tree planting is a great way for everybody to help to create new spaces for nature and a greener environment for future generations.”
