Herefordshire Skills Show aims to inspire the next generation
Herefordshire Council is inviting local employers, education and training providers and entrepreneurs to take part in a skills and training expo aimed at young people on Thursday 8 February 2024 at Hereford Racecourse.
Herefordshire Skills Show will take place during National Apprenticeship Week (5 – 11 February 2024) and offers local businesses and training organisations the opportunity to provide expert advice and guidance to the county’s future young workforce.
It’s a great way to showcase your business and raise your profile as a key employer in the local area.
Organisers will be welcoming over 1,200 young people, in years 10 and above, to the event.
Councillor Ivan Powell, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:
“Herefordshire Skills Show aims to provide young people with a wide range of information on careers, apprenticeships, job vacancies, work experience, internships, college courses, university courses, gap year opportunities and more. Just as importantly, it’s also an opportunity to showcase the talent and potential of our young people to local employers and training organisations.
“We would like to see lots of local businesses and training providers at the event, so young people have access to a wide range of professional advice. This will help them to make informed decisions on their future career options and hopefully encourage them to take up the opportunities available to them within the county.”
Hannah Forsbrook Sales and Marketing Manager at Thorne Widgery, added:
“The Thorne Widgery team will be attending the Herefordshire Skills Show in February. It's important for us to demonstrate how we invest and develop future talent. Shows like these, open the eyes of young people who are at the stages of exploring their chosen future career.
“We hope that lots of young people come and chat to us at the event - our team will be delighted to hear about their career aspirations and offer support where we can.”
Nigel Morgan, Chief Executive of Herefordshire and Worcestershire Group Training Association (HWGTA), said:
“HWGTA are proud sponsors of Herefordshire Skills Show. We have a strong, proven history in upskilling school/college leavers through apprenticeship programmes and progression opportunities.
“The Skills Show is an important event for us to connect with the workforce of the future and showcase apprenticeship opportunities. The support and attendance of local businesses is vital to help raise awareness of the employment and career development opportunities available within the county.”
If you are a local business or a training provider and would like to take part in the event and engage with young people, you can find more information at on the Skills Show employers webpage.
The closing date to book a place at the event is Monday 11 December 2023.
