The annual campaign raises awareness of fostering

Herefordshire Council is supporting this year’s Foster Care Fortnight and celebrating the work its fostering community does for Herefordshire’s children and young people. This year’s event is running from May 13th to the 26th.

This year’s theme is celebrating the moments that define fostering journeys, big and small. The moments that built confidence, made young people feel safe and created memories.

As part of the celebration, Herefordshire Council’s Fostering Team have been asking the children in their care to write appreciation cards for their foster carers.

One child, placed with foster carers, said

“Your care and support mean everything to me. I just wanted to say a big thanks for being such amazing foster carers. Your help has truly changed my life.”

Councillor Ivan Powell, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said:

“We’re excited to support this year’s Foster Care Fortnight. Celebrating the wonderful moments that fostering creates, and the incredible work that our carers do, is really important. We encourage anyone who wants to create special moments and memories that last a lifetime to consider fostering and get in touch with us.”

Throughout the fortnight, Herefordshire Council’s Fostering Team will be hosting a range of activities to show their appreciation for its fostering community, including a carer conference featuring inspirational speakers, a bake off competition and coffee mornings and support groups

With record numbers of children in care and a significant proportion of foster carers retiring or leaving every year, thousands more foster families are needed across the country. On average in the UK, a child comes into care in need of a foster family every 15 minutes.

Herefordshire Council’s Fostering Team will be hosting a drop-in recruitment event at Hereford Town Hall on Thursday 23 May 23rd between 4 and 6pm to give people an insight into fostering.
