Events are being held to thank unpaid carers for their dedication and hard work, and to encourage them to access the support available

There are hundreds of people in Herefordshire who provide unpaid care. Despite their substantial contribution, many unpaid carers prefer not to identify themselves in that role. Instead, they see themselves simply as parents, children, friends, or siblings providing vital support to their loved ones.

Carers Week, which runs from Monday 10 to Sunday 16 June, aims to raise awareness of the vital role carers play, highlight the challenges they face and to recognise the contribution they make to families and communities.

The campaign is brought to life by thousands of individuals and organisations across the UK, who come together to provide support for carers, run activities, highlight the vital role carers play in our communities and draw attention to just how important caring is.

In Herefordshire, we acknowledge and value the essential role of unpaid carers in our community through their dedication, compassion and support.

Councillor Carole Gandy, cabinet member for adults, health and wellbeing, said.

“I would like to say a huge thank you to all of our unpaid carers, including Young Carers, who make a real difference across Herefordshire.

“Caring for a loved one is something many of us will do in our lifetime, but we must make sure that we are caring for our carers too. Carers Week provides a great opportunity for us to shine a light on our carers, to celebrate their dedication and hard work and to encourage them to access the support that is available.”

Alongside events being held for carers of all ages to celebrate Carers Week, there are a number of other places to find out more about the support available for unpaid carers, including:
