Six new electric vehicle (EV) charge point bays are now available in Leominster’s Broad Street car park.

The new charge points consist of two 22kW fast charge points and one 100kW ultra-rapid charge point, with each charge point serving two dedicated parking bays. The 100kW Delta charger is the first ultra-rapid charger to be installed in a council car park in the county and will enable drivers to fully re-charge their car battery in around 20-30 minutes, depending on the vehicle model.

These charge points are in addition to the 50kW charger which already serves two parking bays, making Broad Street car park a go-to EV charging destination within the county.

The new charge points are owned and operated by Wenea. The Council is working in partnership with Wenea to expand the network of chargers available in Council owned car parks, with more car park chargers in the pipeline.

You can get a free 30 minute parking ticket to display in your electric or hybrid vehicle at council-owned, off-street car parks, while you plug in and charge. Electricity at all charge points in Council car parks is subject to a fee, payable to Wenea via the app. The fast chargers cost 42p/kWh and the ultra-rapids cost 75p/kWh for a recharge.

Cllr Philip Price, Cabinet Member Transport and Infrastructure, said: “Easier access to fast, rapid and ultra-rapid charging infrastructure is central to supporting the switch to electric vehicles across the county. The new charge points in our Broad Street, Leominster car park are valuable additions to the network.

“Herefordshire has seen a growth in demand for EV charging infrastructure over the last few years and Herefordshire Council has an important role to play as a facilitator in meeting this demand. Making the switch to EVs is an important part of tackling climate change by reducing tailpipe emissions and improving local air quality.”

Gustavo Prince, UK Country Manager of Wenea, added: "We have been working closely with Herefordshire Council for some time to enhance the charging infrastructure in the region. The deployment of these chargers at Broad Street will enable us to serve various customer profiles, with a tailored solution for both short and long stay users. We are excited to ramp up our deployment in Herefordshire, providing accessible and convenient charging solutions for all drivers and leading the transition to sustainable mobility in the county."
