The next stage of resurfacing works on Herefordshire’s A & B roads will take place in September, and will see improvements to over 6km of road surface.

Throughout 2024/25, the council is investing £8 million into resurfacing on the county’s highway network, with £5 million being committed to A and B roads and a further £3 million for C and unclassified roads. The September works will include a large scheme at Bishops Frome that will see over 1km of road resurfaced.

There will also be significant improvements to the A4113, A4110 and A465, which will benefit from resurfacing of over 900m, 1km and 1.2km of road surface respectively.

Lengths of road have been identified for resurfacing works following detailed and comprehensive surface and structural condition surveys. These surveys help us to objectively prioritise where we need to invest across our highway network.

Cllr Barry Durkin, Cabinet Member for Roads and Regulatory Services, said: “Resurfacing is a key element of our approach to repairing and maintaining our county’s highways network. It is an extensive method used on roads that are nearing the end of their life or where there may be significant structural issues. Resurfacing involves the removal of the existing road surface, remedial works being carried out to the structural layers of the road and then a new road surface being laid, and can extend the life of a road for 15-25 years.

“We’re pleased to announce this next stage of works, which will help to improve 6km of A & B roads, and is part of our additional investment of £12million that we are making this year to improve Herefordshire’s highways network.”
