Care experienced children and young people attended a Fun Day hosted by Herefordshire Children and Family services last week (Wednesday 28 August) at Hereford Rugby Club.
Music, face painting, bouncy castles and football were just a few of the activities on offer throughout the day all enjoyed with live music, candy floss, pizza and ice cream.
Children’s social care staff and carers joined in with the games to ensure the children and young people had a fun time at the event.
Daisy, age 8, said: “I’ve had a lovely day. I’ve had my hair done and played tag with my friends.”
Mason, age 11, said: “I’ve enjoyed everything today. I’ve played football and been on the bouncy castles with my sister. I made myself candy floss and got seahorse tattoos. It’s been a fun day!”
Councillor Ivan Powell, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People, said: “We’re incredibly proud of our care experienced children and young people and we’re really grateful for the great work that their carers do to support them in their everyday lives.
“This event aims to provide children, young people, their carers, with the opportunity to relax and enjoy themselves and try out new activities with friends.
“Despite the weather, great fun was had by everyone who attended the event.”
Tina Russell, Corporate Director of Children and Young People, added: “I want to thank the staff and carers who gave their time and enthusiasm to this event so ensure the children and young people were all able to take part. Children who are, or have been, in care have had some really difficult life experiences to deal with. Making friends and having fun at events like this is an important part of being a child and living some care free time – thank you all who made it happen”
Special thanks go to the local activity providers IllumiNight Mobile Disco, Party Floss, Magical Experiences, Dazzles, Hereford Libraries, Talk Community and Mega Bounce.
Thanks also to Hereford Rugby and Football Club for use of their venue, West Mercia Police, Hereford & Worcester Fire and Rescue Service and the Beefy Boys for supporting the event.
