Herefordshire Council is enhancing its HomePoint system to deliver a smoother, more efficient service for residents looking for social or affordable housing.

HomePoint is Herefordshire’s main website for managing the council’s housing register, also known as the housing waiting list.

The council works closely with housing associations as it does not hold any housing stock directly. HomePoint advertises homes available from the county’s leading housing associations, playing a key role in helping people access secure, affordable housing.

  • 1981 households are currently on the housing register.
  • 53 new households join the register each month on average.

By partnering with Home Connections, the council aims to improve access to housing, prevent homelessness, and make it easier for residents to find the right home.

Hayley Crane, Head of Housing at Herefordshire Council, said:

“This upgrade is an exciting step forward in providing the best possible service. By working with Home Connections, we’re making the platform more efficient, easier to use, and better equipped to help residents find the perfect home.”

The new HomePoint system will go live on 25 November 2024 with:

  • A fresh design and easier navigation for a smoother user experience.
  • Better communication tools to connect residents with housing options faster.

Key updates for applicants:

  • New Applications Paused: No new applications accepted from 20 September 2024 to allow for a smooth transition.
  • Reapply from 25 November: All applicants will be required to re-register from 25 November, however this will be a one time login for applicants who are currently registered, in addition those currently registered will keep their band and wait times.
  • Live Applications Unaffected: Current applicants can continue bidding on properties.
  • Temporary Closure: HomePoint will close to the public from 21 October 2024, but property ads and bidding will continue as normal.

Every local authority in England must have a scheme for prioritising and allocating social housing. These updates ensure HomePoint meets these legal requirements while providing a more user-friendly service.
