Herefordshire Museum Service hosting events celebrating Anglo-Saxon and Viking Treasure
The Herefordshire Museum Service is hosting an exciting series of events dedicated to the Herefordshire Hoard, an extraordinary collection of Anglo-Saxon and Viking treasure dating back to the 9th century.
Discovered in 2015, the Hoard offers invaluable insights into the region's early medieval history.
This winter, visitors are invited to explore the Hoard through a variety of engaging activities, including exclusive evening tours, family-friendly workshops, and interactive handling sessions.

- Discover the Herefordshire Hoard – An Evening with the Hoard
Date: 19 November 2024, 5pm – 6.30pm
An engaging presentation exploring Anglo-Saxon and Viking life, followed by an exclusive look at the Hoard. Booking required (ages 12+).
- Herefordshire Hoard Family Adventure
Date: 25 January 2025, 10am – 12.30pm & 1.30pm – 3.30pm
Enjoy hands-on activities including crafting Viking bangles, treasure digs, and a Viking-themed photo booth. Free drop-in event.
- Exclusive Store Tours – Discover Hidden Treasures
Dates: 1, 8, 15, 22 February 2025, 2pm
Gain behind-the-scenes access to the museum’s collection stores, with stories shared by expert curators. Free entry.
- Hands-On History: Replica Handling Session
Date: 8 March 2025, 10am – 11.30am & 2pm – 3.30pm
Experience replicas of the Hoard’s treasures. Suitable for all ages.
- Ask the Experts: Archaeology Q&A
Date: 12 April 2025, 2pm – 3.30pm
Join an interactive Q&A session with archaeology experts. Free entry (ages 12+).
