Herefordshire Council’s Public Rights of Way team has been working with a local contractor to improve the 2,100 miles of Public Rights of Way network in the county with a focus on routes that have been temporarily closed.
The first phase of this work has included the installation of ten new bridges and the replacement of a set of 200 steps at Eastnor enabling routes across the county to be re-opened.
Over the coming months, many more locations will see new bridges and other features installed to ensure the network remains open to local residents and tourists who come to Herefordshire to walk our beautiful county.
Cllr Philip Price, Cabinet Member Transport and Infrastructure, said: “Keeping our Rights of Way network as well-maintained and open not only helps provide opportunities for local people to boost their health and wellbeing by walking outdoors, it also helps to attract visitors. Public Rights of Way are a valuable asset to this county and I am pleased to see that we are re-opening paths that have been closed due to a historic lack of investment.”
