Herefordshire Council has arranged a flood drop-in session for residents and businesses affected by flooding in the north of Herefordshire.
Following recent flooding events, Herefordshire Council organised a number of drop-in sessions to provide advice, guidance and support prior to Christmas in the Holme Lacy, Greyfriars and Ewyas Harold and Pontrilas areas.
A further session has now been confirmed to provide information and support for homes, businesses and communities in the north of the county.
The session will be held at Leominster Library on 16 January, from 3.30-6.30pm.
Cllr John Harrington, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure and Transport, said: “The flooding events over recent months have been very difficult and we are determined to provide all the help and support we can for the people affected. The response from our partner organisations and local people has been extraordinary, and showcases the strength and community spirit that characterises Herefordshire.
“Our recent drop-in sessions were very well-attended and the feedback has been overwhelmingly positive, but there is plenty of work still to do – both to help our local communities and economy to rebuild, and to strengthen our resilience for future flood events. This effort will continue at our Leominster session.
“I ask that local people please take the chance to drop-in and talk to the council and our partner organisations. You can provide a vital contribution to our county’s flood resilience by sharing your experiences and ideas.
“If you can’t make it, please do get in touch either via our website or by contacting your local ward member, and I strongly encourage anybody who has been affected by flooding to look into the support that is available.”
Applications are now being accepted for a Community Flood Recovery Grant worth £500 to each affected household. In order to qualify for the assistance, flood water must have entered the habitable areas of their property, or the residence must have been considered unliveable for any period of time due to flooding.
Alongside this is a Business Flood Recovery Grant, which will provide up to £2,500 per eligible small and medium-sized business. To qualify, businesses must be able to evidence that they have been directly impacted or have directly suffered a loss of trade as a result of the flooding that cannot be recovered from insurance.
