Repair works are set to begin that will allow the reopening of the C1257 through Symonds Yat.
The road has been closed since June 2018 following a landslip, and works have not been able to be carried out due to damage to a privately owned wall that compromised the safety of the highway.
Following service of a notice under section 167 of the Highways Act a solution has now been reached that will enable works to the wall to start later this month. Once these works are complete, we will be able to make the necessary repairs to the highway in early April, and safely reopen the road soon after.
Cllr John Harrington, Cabinet Member for Infrastructure and Transport, said: “It has been a challenging journey to reach a point where we can safely reopen the C1257. We understand what a significant impact the closure has had on the local community and would like to thank them for their patience and understanding as we approach a resolution.
“Our priority has been to ensure the road can be safely reopened and we regret how long it has taken to secure the commitment of all parties to deliver their respective works. Thankfully the necessary works can now be carried out, and the community can put this difficult period behind them.”
