Our ambitions for low carbon waste

We have bold ambitions for the future of Herefordshire as outlined in the Council Plan 2024-2028:

"Delivering the best for Herefordshire in everything we do... We will protect and enhance our environment and ensure that Herefordshire remains a great place to live."

Our Integrated Waste Management Strategy 2021 - 2035 will help us address this vision by forming the corner stone of our approach to the management of waste across Herefordshire now and in the future. By implementing this strategy, we will deliver on our strong commitment to recycle more, reduce our waste and meet the goals established in our climate emergency declaration.

How we are addressing some of the key targets within the strategy

  • Target - Net zero carbon by 2030

What we are doing

Introducing two new electric refuse collection vehicles (eRCV) to collection rounds.

The vehicles will be used in Hereford, helping to reduce air pollution, including particulates and nitrogen oxide gases, and noise pollution in the city.

Powered by renewable electricity, the eRCVs will be powered up at the council depot on Ross Road, which is ideally suited to the mileage range of the vehicles.

What you can do to help

Our Greener Footprints project is our county-wide action plan on how you can also help make a difference.

You can also take every opportunity to follow the waste hierarchy and reduce, reuse and recycle your waste.
