Carer's assessment for parents/carers of disabled children
As a carer for a disabled child or young person, you have a legal right to a free assessment of your own needs. This is called a carer's assessment.
A carer's assessment is not a test about your ability to care. It helps to identify the physical, emotional and practical help you need to carry on your caring role. You have the right to have your own needs considered when decisions are being made about support for the person you care for. This will include any education, training, work or leisure activity that you would like to take part in. The disabled children’s social care team uses a carers’ self- assessment as part of the child and family assessment.
