Boundary review

Review of ward boundaries in Herefordshire

The Local Government Boundary Commission for England has completed its review of council wards in Herefordshire and published its final report based on the initial consultation carried out from 25 November 2025 to 2 February 2026 and the draft recommendations consultation carried out from 28 April to 6 July 2026.

We are sharing this information on our website for residents, parish and town councils and local organisations on behalf of the LGBCE.

Final report

The changes are designed to make sure councillors represent roughly the same number of voters while keeping communities together where possible.

The changes are expected to come into effect for the May 2027 local elections, subject to approval by Parliament.

The recommendations are based on projected elector numbers for 2031.

What is changing

  • Herefordshire will still have 53 councillors
  • There will still be 53 wards
  • Every ward will continue to elect one councillor
  • 17 ward boundaries will change
  • 36 wards will remain exactly the same

Why are boundaries changing

As populations change, some councillors end up representing many more voters than others. The review aims to:

  • Keep representation fair across the county
  • Reflect local communities and identities
  • Make it easier for local government to work effectively

What happens next

For most people your councillor numbers will not change, council services will not change, your postcode will not change, your Council Tax will not change because of this review.

If you live in one of the affected areas, you may find that you vote in a different ward from 2027, your ward boundary changes slightly, your parish ward arrangements may also change.

The LGBCE will now lay a draft order in both Houses of Parliament. Subject to parliamentary scrutiny, the new electoral arrangements are scheduled to come into effect at the local elections in May 2027.
