Metal double candle holder with drip tray on metal legs. Weight:268.4g. Joanna Williams - Blacksmith. National Heritgae Ironwork Group Student 2011 Description & Condition Report: Metal Candle Holder Comprising of Square base (apporx 1mm thick) with turned up edge on trivet base. Candle Holder base has rectangular section set down into tapered twist widening out into flat section then tapering again to create handle. Attached to this upright section is a conical and flat bar section extending forwards terminating in a round loop in a horizontal plane. These two pieces are riveted onto a back upright piece. Attached at rectangular base of back upright flat bar extending in curved shape forwards and upwrads into loop. The top of bar is slightly swaged. Halfway up this bar is a flat bar tapering to an open ribbon scroll end. This is riveted on forming the mechanism to pull bar back and hold candle under compression in loop section. Conservation Treatment: 9/8/2011 Item was wiped over with cottonwool swab dampened with acetone. Item was passed over lightly with steel wire wool and 3 in 1 oil to mechanically clean accreations. Item was wiped over with cotton swab and acetone to remove traces of 3 in 1 oil and any remaining 'wet' products and dirt. Item was given a coat of Microcrystalline wax and buffed. Post Conservation Findings: Back upright wobbly caused by loose riveting. Otherwise item structurally sound. No signs of active corrosion.
