This woman's hat made of plaited cane comes from the Foley family home at Stoke Edith, Hereford. It has been suggested that it may have belonged to Queen Anne (1702-1714) who visited the house. We can tell by the quality of the work that this hat was probably made in the Tuscany area of Italy, a main centre for this type of hat production, in the late 17th century.
