This drawing shows two work-horses being used to move heavy materials. The horse in the centre is dragging a load, possibly wrapped in sacking or canvas, attached by chains to the harness. There is apparently no sledge to support this load even though it is obviously weighty. The cargo could have been a domestic commodity, such as coal or building materials, or possibly agricultural produce, such as turnips or potatoes. Whatever the activity, the commotion has attracted the attention of the woman and children at the cottage gate and the boy on the other horse, who swivels in his seat to look back with interest. The drawing remains something of a mystery, perhaps there is a sledge hidden out-of-sight beneath the load.
