Edward the Confessor penny, Coin

Silver penny of Edward the Confessor, minted by Hereford moneyer Eadwig between 1059 and 1062. On the obverse side King Edward is depicted with a beard and crown facing right and holding a sceptre. On the reverse side is the name of the moneyer Eadwig of Hereford, with a short cross in the centre of the flan. Hereford was granted the right to mint coins from the reign of the King Aethelstan (924-39) until Henry III (1216-1272).
