Ploughing, Painting

This is a view of horses ploughing the dark red earth of a Herefordshire field under a glowering sky. The liight on the trees indicates that there may have been showers through the day. If the ground is wet and heavy it is unusual that such light horses should be used to pull the plough. The man is stooping awkwardly to guide the plough up the slope. The working team seems ill-suited to the task; perhaps this is what attracted Brian to the subject. It is a very dark image elivened only by the light on the horizon.
