Joanna Williams - Blacksmith. National Heritage Ironwork Group Student 2011 Description and Condition report: Tinder Striker: Rectanguler solid base which has curving outer edge from wear. Striker part - at either end material is flat tapering section curving up and inward creating handle each end terminated with small ribbon scroll (looks similar to cross section of a crown) Tinder Box: Small heart shaped container (no lid) made form Brass. Comprising of sheet metal base in shape of heart with sheet metal band creating wall around it. Item has been braised together. Conservation Treatment: 9/8/2011 Items were wiped over with cotton swab dampened with acetone. Post conservation findings: Some dirt/rust accreations. No active corosion. Stucturally sound. If Tinder Box and Tinder striker are to be kept together tissue paper or plasterzote should be used to avoid items touching due to differenet materials and effects of galvanic corrosion.
