This shroud was intended for a woman and was made around 1890-1910. It forms only the front of a gown and would have been laid on top of the corpse and probably tied at the back. It has separate sleeves which are also flat and stitiched to the front on either side. The neck is trimmed with silk braid. The V panel is trimmed with 4 silk woven buttons, pinked satin, tassels and lace. The cuffs are trimmed with pinked satin and a triple pleat above and below the satin. This shroud is made of a material called lint. Lint is a type of linen which has been scraped to create a soft fluffed texture. It was used in the medical profession for dressing wounds.
