This woman's half crinoline, or tournure, was made in around 1875 to 1877. The back of the garment has four small hoops which form a bustle and eleven wider hoops to support the remainder of the skirt at the back. These are secured with white cotton pique which is laced at the inner back section of the crinoline. The front of the half crinoline is fastened at the waist by three buttons and is shaped over the stomach. The hem and bustle section are trimmed with a cotton flounce. It was worn under the skirts to accentuate the woman's silhouette.
