This crinoline would have been worn by a young girl in around 1865. The manufacturer's name 'Thomsons Misses' Skirt' is printed on the waistband. It is made from 20 graduated, steel hoops which are covered with cotton and held together by six cotton tapes. Over all is a red cotton cover. It would have fastened at the front with buttons. The crinoline was designed to display the large amounts of fabric which were characteristic of the dresses of the day.
