Stomacher, Stomacher

This item of costume is called a stomacher and was made in the early 18th century. The stomacher was worn in the front opening of the open robe. They were often embmroidered. This stomacher is roughly triangular with the point at the waist. Either side of the point there are three additional small panels to shape the stomacher. There are silk ties at the top for fastening the stomacher. It is made from silk and embroidered in silk thread with a floral pattern consisting of six main flowers, the central one a being a tulip. The colours include purple, pink, cream, beige, yellow and green.
