This fragment of dress fabricl was made in about 1780. It is a silk brocade with a white taffeta ground and has a damask scalloped cone pattern. The floral motifs of the brocade are executed in purples, blues, pinks, and green. The 'selvedge' on each side shows the width of the fabric on the loom to be 519 mm. The silk would have been woven either on a draw loom or a forerunner of the Jacquard loom.
