Axe

Blacksmith made forestry style axe head. Possibly used for general duties as well as felling or splitting. The rear face (flat striking face) has a piece of carbon steel sheet fire welded to the body of the axe. This has split slightly and delaminated from use. This would have made the axe much more resilient to impacts and better for use as a hammer. It is also likely that the axe blade has a fire welded carbon steel strip included to improve the edge properties.
