Part of a portrait study probably made in a art school setting. Only the head and neck remain where the canvas has been cut. The woman's hair is piled on her head and held up off her neck in an 'Edwardian' style. Hatton made a number of studio studies during his time at art shool in Arbroath in 1906, and also during a visit to Julien's Academy, Paris in 1910.
