Stone mould found used to cast pewter toy jugs. Excavated from a 15th century deposit in Berrington Street in Hereford. It is one of only two known medieval moulds for toys from Britain. Miniature everyday objects were used as playthings in Medieval times, and from the 13th century onwards were made from base metals - lead alloys and copper alloys - which were easy to cast. On the reverse of the toy jug mould is another mould for casting belt studs. The belt stud moulds were cut first, and may have gone out of use when the stone was reshaped to form the jug mould. One of the stud impressions has been cut through during the re-shaping of the stone for the jug impression.
