Vase

A tall stoneware vase with twisted and swollen neck form. The vase defies any practical use since it supports itself but would not be stable with any contents. Its function is superceded by the aesthetic beauty, of the rustic texture of the surface glaze, and the visual tension of the apparent instability of the form. Glenda Cahillane was born in 1955 in Lurgan, Northern Ireland. She trained at the Northern Ireland Polytechnic in Belfast and the Royal College of Art in London in the 1970's. She makes thrown and assembled vessels in stoneware, applied slipware and multi-fired ware. She has a studio in London.
