Joanna Williams - Blacksmith, Visual Description: "Metal object assumed to be forged. Small solid bird with seperately attached wings. Front claws perched on two bars emminating from round pointed spike with third bar extending to back area supporting tail. Consulted with other staff members and advised to consult with Robin Thorndyke, natural history volunteer. On showing him the item he advised me on what type of bird he thought it was (jungle fowl) and what region of the world he felt it was from (India or Indonesia). I advised him where the item had been donated from (Malvern) and when (1937). Robin then discussed with me his theories on how many people would travel back and settle in Malvern when returning from India in the time of colonial rule. This backed up his theories of where item was from as he suggested it would have been brought back as item of curiosity, gift or keepsake etc. I researched his suggestions and found images of the jungle fowl very similar to that of the item. I also discovered a picture of the jungle fowl on an Indian stamp."
