Heather's story
Heather came into a Shared Lives household at the age of 18 in June 2022. It was hard for her and her Mum to live separately but Shared Lives has enabled them to build an even more positive relationship as two independent individuals. Heather's mother's existing acquaintance with the Shared Lives carer Rachel, has really supported everyone to work together.
Heather's college attendance significantly improved, as did her independence skills. She learnt to use public transport to and from college, she enjoys cooking for the household and isn't afraid to disagree with anything now that her confidence has grown. She has really come out of herself.
Heather has been encouraged to eat healthily, join the gym, and she and her Shared lives carer walk the dog and go swimming together. Heather is very proud that she lost a stone in weight in 2024.
She now feels supported in her Shared Lives arrangement and clearly enjoys living with her Shared Lives Carer, Rachel.
Heather flourished at college, so much so that she was selected to show the Mayor of Hereford around the college.
Heather has joined a social group on a Wednesday evening where she has made new friends with whom she meets on the weekends for lunch and the cinema.
Heather's Shared Lives carer supported her to choose a Greek holiday in Summer 2024 and we think the photos speak for themselves.
