A new Local Transport Plan for Herefordshire 2024-2041

We are currently in the early stages of developing a new Local Transport Plan (LTP) for the county.

The LTP sets out what, where and how we intend to invest in transport in Herefordshire. We are looking to tackle existing and future transport challenges. The Plan will cover the period from 2024 to 2041.

The new LTP comes at an opportune time for the council to support wider ambitions; in particular, the LTP is closely linked to the council's emerging Local Plan. For example, investment in transport is required when planning for new housing development and land use, and the location and design of these will have an impact on travel patterns and the new infrastructure needed to support them.

The new LTP will cover the whole of Herefordshire, recognising the different characteristics of Hereford, the five market towns and our rural communities. It will contain two key elements:

  1. An overarching strategy setting out how investment in transport will help to achieve the economic, environmental, health and social ambitions of the council
  2. An implementation plan setting out a programme of schemes and projects which will include a wide range of types of transport options

Engagement - Your feedback - March to May 2024

We undertook a period of early engagement with members of the public and various stakeholders between March and May 2024. This was to understand where people need to travel and how they would prefer to get there. We also wanted to seek views on our emerging LTP themes and supporting actions.

We are using this feedback to help us shape the detail of the plan, before we hold a wider public consultation on the proposals in early 2025.

Our current Local Transport Plan 2016-2031

Our current Local Transport Plan (LTP) covers the period 2016-2031. It was adopted by the council in May 2016. The LTP was developed to reflect Herefordshire's existing Core Strategy 2016-2031.

The Local Transport Plan sets out the council's strategy for supporting economic growth, improving health and wellbeing and reducing the environmental impacts of transport.

Please note, the maps included in the Local Transport Plan 2016-2031 strategy are diagrammatic and if you require further details please contact us.
